In your area:
Thanks to everyone who took the time to visit our stall in Spindles recently. The issues you raised have been passed on to the police and council, and we will work together to solve them and make your neighbourhood a better and safer place to live.
One shopper raised concerns about antisocial behaviour in the Higher House Close area. We recently went door to door to speak to residents about this issue and to ask for their views on how it should be tackled. We received a lot of suggestions, particularly about what facilities should be put in place for young people.
We are now working with the council, housing associations and community groups to try and put some of these solutions into practice.
Patrols have been increased in key areas, at key times and officers and youth workers have been speaking to young people about the consequences of getting involved in crime and antisocial behaviour. We have also been carrying out test purchase operations at the off licenses to crackdown on underage sales of alcohol.
As a result, reports of antisocial behaviour fell by 42 per cent between September and November compared with last year – that’s 280 fewer victims.
The team have also been cracking down on burglary following an increase in break-ins across the neighbourhood, with recent activity resulting in more than 100 arrests across the borough. Hundreds of homes have also been visited and residents urged to avoid the nightmare of being burgled this winter by leaving a light on.
Residents should make sure they close and lock all doors and windows and use an alarm. You should also keep all valuables out of view and out of reach, including car and house keys.
