I have been the Inspector at Failsworth and Hollinwood for three months now and I’ve been inspired by how closely and effectively local officers, housing associations, council, and community and voluntary groups work together to make this neighbourhood safer.

Antisocial behaviour continues to be the main issue for residents. In response, we launched Operation Decker, which has resulted in a 32 per cent drop in incidents in October and November compared with last year – that’s 67 fewer victims.

Officers are also working with Trading Standards and Licensing to tackle underage sales of alcohol. Visits are being made to licensed premises and fixed penalty notices issued to anyone who is caught buying alcohol for underage teenagers.

Police have also been speaking to young people about the consequences of getting involved in antisocial behavior and some have been referred to Oldham Council’s Anti-social Behaviour Team.

The success of this operation so far highlights the importance of working together with the council and the community. As part of Our Service Promise we will continue to listen and act on community concerns and work with them to make their neighbourhoods safer. It is really important therefore that people tell us what they think about the work officers are doing to keep them safe.

Take a look around this website to find out what other issues we are currently focusing on. You can also tell us your concerns about crime and antisocial behaviour where you live by getting in touch by phone or email or coming along to a meeting. Or why not fill in the form below.

Thanks for visiting oldhamsays.com. This is your platform to have your say about crime and antisocial behaviour and please get involved, whether you want to submit an article, star in a film or just post a comment.

Thanks

Regular visits to licensed premises are being carried out by the neighbourhood policing team on Friday and Saturday evenings. Officers also attend local Pub Watch meetings and have access to the Pub Watch radio link.

Youths causing annoyance around Tesco

Tesco, Lord Lane and Lancaster Avenue
The NPT has increased patrols and is also utilising CCTV to identify those responsible. Officers have also been speaking to the youths about the consequences of their behaviour and how it can impact on other members of their community. Officers have taken the details of young people who continue to engage in anti-social behaviour and are visiting parents. Tesco is also being used as a base for neighbourhood officers at the weekend so they can respond to incidents more quickly.

Youths causing annoyance

Hollins Road
A joint project, with police, Oldham Council and voluntary and community groups, has been in place since December to tackle this issue. As a result anti-social behaviour has halved. As well as a dispersal order put in place, young people have been encouraged to get involved in positive activities including dj-ing, sports and music projects.
