I hope residents in Hollinwood have noticed their streets are now quieter thanks to an initiative to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Alongside a dispersal order, a number of activities have been in place for young people to get involved in, including sports, rapping and DJ-ing. The Youth Bus and Eden Project have also been making regular stops in the area.
It fills me with great pride that the combined hard work of the police, Integrated Youth Services, the housing providers, Street Link and the other community and voluntary groups, and above all the support of the community has resulted in a 50% drop in anti-social behaviour. So a big thank you to everyone involved.
Although the Dispersal Order has now ended, neighbourhood officers will continue to patrol the area and additional funding has been provided so the activities can continue.
It’s our aim to continue this success and hopefully roll out this approach to tackling anti-social behaviour across the borough and beyond.
Anti-social behaviour is also the main issue affecting your quality of life in Failsworth West. The area around Tesco on Ashton Road West is a particular hotspot and we have been doing a lot of work to target the culprits. CCTV is being monitored, officers are visiting parents, and the supermarket is also being used as a base for neighbourhood officers at the weekend so they can respond to incidents more quickly. We are also working with our partners to look at the provision of diversionary activities in the area.
Alcohol-related crime and disorder along Oldham Road is our priority issue in Failsworth East. At times the sheer volume of people can create problems and we have run a number of operations, which include increased high visibility patrols on Friday and Saturday nights and carrying out regular visits to licensed premises. We are also working closely with the local pubs and attend the Pub Watch meetings.
Encouraging revellers to drink responsibly is vital to reducing alcohol-related incidents. So if you’re going out in Failsworth, please remember to pace your drinks, stay with friends and take a trusted taxi home.
Thank you
