In your area:
The Town Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team is involved in a lot of operations to make your visit to Oldham a safer one, but we can't do it without your help.
Anti-social behaviour in the bus station is a priority concern. In response we have teamed up with GMPTE, Oldham Council, schools, colleges and bus operator First to tackle the issue. This has involved increased patrols by police officers, Bus Watch Specials and GMPTE security staff in a bid to reassure passengers and town centre visitors. Truancy sweeps will also be conducted as part of the operation, and youth workers will also be looking to engage with youngsters.
We continue to work closely with Oldham Council, Oldham Partnership and pubs and clubs in the town centre to tackle violent crime and alcohol-related crime, to make Oldham a safer place to enjoy a night out.
Best Bar None has just launched in the town. Successful across the UK, Best Bar None will reward Oldham town centre’s best venues for offering a safe and crime-free environment to their customers. This is great news for Oldham and reflects the hard work that has gone on in the town centre to ensure people have a safe, enjoyable nigh - resulting in a 22 per cent drop in alcohol-related crime.
Best Bar None is an opportunity for us to showcase this success and also focus on the areas that still need improvements, making sure that each pub, club and bar continues to work with us and is doing all they can to fight the problems caused by binge-drinking and alcohol-fuelled crime.
