The Royton and Shaw Neighbourhood Policing Team continue to tackle your priority issues to make your neighbourhood a safer and better place to live.

In Royton North we have been doing a lot of work to tackle anti-social behaviour in the Lindale Avenue, Mardale Avenue and Loughrigg Avenue area. High visibility patrols continue in the area and officers have been speaking to local residents to find out who may be responsible. Trees, previously used as a place of shelter by the youths, have now been cut back, resulting in a drop in incidents and plans are in place to plant thorny bushes at the rear of the houses to stop young people gaining access to the garage roof. Residents have also now set up a Home Watch scheme to keep a watchful eye on the community and ensure all incidents are reported to us.

Anti-social behaviour and criminal damage has been the focus of the team in the Lyon Street area of Shaw, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings. We have worked with Oldham Council to improve the street lighting, install alley-gates and we are currently negotiating the installation of fencing. As in Royton North, we have helped establish a Home Watch scheme and residents have been coming forward with information about those responsible. Along with Anti-social Behaviour Officers from Community Safety Services, officers have spoken to the offenders and are now on Anti-social Behaviour Contracts.

The same issues are a priority for residents in Crompton and Royton South. We continue to put extra patrols in place at key times, which have led to a decrease in incidents around Salts Street, Crompton Bowling Club and Crompton Cricket Club.

In Royton South, we have also been tackling under-age drinking, which is a key factor in the anti-social behaviour. Recent test-purchasing operations have led to an adult being fined £80 for buying alcohol for underage teenagers. Youth Services outreach workers have also been out in the area and plans are in place for a number of activities to get the young people off the streets.

Thank you

PACT stands for partners and communities together. PACTs happen all across Oldham and are a great way for residents and businesses to meet representatives of the council, police and other organisations, have their say and hear what’s happening in their area. There are also regular police surgeries in your community.
