Making Oldham's Bars and Pubs a Safer Place to Go

'Raising the Standards - Raising the Bar'

After the success of the first year in Oldham town centre the Best Bar None scheme continues for a second year. Licensed premises will be invited to achieve the Best Bar None standard for a second time. Joe Curran the co-ordinator of the scheme explained, ‘Best Bar None is a national accreditation with over 100 towns and cities across the UK now involved. Earlier this year 20 town centre premises received the accreditation at a prestigious awards ceremony held at the Coliseum Theatre. The scheme lends itself to ensuring that pubs, bars and nightclubs operate their businesses with social responsibility and due diligence. Additionally with policies and procedures in place addresses crime, disorder, safety and alcohol related health concerns. Each applicant has to be assessed before they are eligible to be given the national accreditation.

The first year was a great success Joe added and this year we are not only looking to continue with it in the town centre are intention is to introduce it to Saddleworth and Lees for phase two. Best Bar None ensures that the management of licensed premises reaches a standard of acceptability ensuring both the general public and employees are safe and not at risk.
